Neighbourhood Symposiums: I,II,III

Project type

Theater Performance

Date

May to August 2019

Location

Thessaloniki, Greece

Role

Director and researcher

The “Neighborhood Symposium” is a participatory performance aimed at bringing together people who live in a particular neighborhood. Taking as its starting point a meal in the center of the shopping complex and the problems that arise there, a panel—a direct democratic process—is formed to openly discuss differing viewpoints and propose possible solutions.

Through a process limited in time and content, and with the help of a professional presenter-performer, we meet five different participants on stage who will emerge as a result of field research and interviews conducted in a specific area. The diversity of the participants’ views lies at the heart of the dramaturgy, which aims to capture a pluralistic map of perspectives and highlight the variety of social groups found in an area.

The goal of the “Symposium” is not to find an immediate solution to the critical issues arising in an area, but rather to share all the concerns and visions of its users, to foster a creative dialogue, and to establish channels of communication that will remain open to offer solutions to personal anxiety and the trap of isolation after the end of the project.
